Where should I take my next snowsports vacation? This is the most frequently asked of all questions and it was this question that inspired the people of skilicious! to get together in the first place to help you answer it. We understand that everyone has different tastes and that al snowsports destinations are unique with strengths in some areas and weakenesses in others and that there is a best destination out there for everyone; we are here to help you find it.

With all the potential factors involved we know it can be complicated but lets start simple: The most basic thing you may want to do it to check out the winners of the skilicious! 2008 Best Awards for some inspiration as to where to go. Taking it up a notch view our general recommendations for snowsports enthusiasts of differing skill levels under the my-skilicious menu which takes some of the best resorts in the world for your level and details some of the best other characteristics you could enjoy there. You may also want to browse through our maps section under the resorts menu, we find that people for which distance away is a key differentiator find this very helpful. Finally you can always browse through our resort pages which provide more information on resorts worldwide until you find somewhere that tickles you in just the right way.

When is the best time of year to go?This is a tricky question to answer too, but there is good news and bad news. First the bad; despite the best efforts of human endeavor in weather prediction no-one really knows when and how much it is going to snow too far into the future at any particular place. You can look at historical snowfall averages (one of the factors we highlight for those destinations blessed in this area in our resort information pages) or you can wait until the last minute, until it has already started snowing before booking your vacation though this can prove to be more expensive.

Inevitably the best indication for when there is likely to be enough snow for you at any resort is to look when the resort plans on officially opening and closing its doors; give a week or two's margin and you're definitely increasing your chances. Of course you will find that apart from a few exceptions (usually due to the existance of glaciers) these open periods will be during the winter months, but fear not (now the good news:) due to the global nature of the snowsports industry these days and the fact that northern hemisphere summer is the same time as southern hemisphere winter it is easily possible to ski somewhere all year round, so really the answer to the question is anytime & everytime.

I've never been on a snowsports holiday before and i'm not sure if i'll like it, plus doesnt everyone always hurt themselves?Well really its quite simple - if you dont go you'll never know. For many people being on the piste (and even off-piste) is a reason for living in itself. And you can quite easily go and do as much or as little as you like; many of the top ski resorts are used to first-timers and as well as offering excellent schools put a high importance on providing vacation facilities away from the mountain e.g. Apres-Ski nightlife, Luxury Spas, Fine Dining etc so even if for some reason you find you dont like it on the slopes you wont be short of ways to enjoy yourself.

Statistically snowsports arent really anymore dangerous that a lot of other activities that people take part in nonchalantly (driving comes to mind!) and if you take the proper precautions it really can be a safe and exhilirating way to enjoy the spectacular mountain settings that our planet is so blessed with. We recommend you read our Risk Management section for further information
